BEIERSHOF OVERIJSE
Sloping green grounds located on the ‘Drogenberg’ near Overijse, form the setting of a new social housing project with 56 units. ‘Energy-efficient living in a social and sustainable environment, tailored to its residents’ summarizes the key concepts of this design most precisely/in the best way. Every decision, from urban planning level to detailing, was made with regards to the natural capacity of the environment. The design resulted in four identical, compact volumes paired together and built in two phases. Each pair, equipped with an underground car park, blends seamlessly into its surroundings with subdued and natural materials. Orientation was the key factor in arranging the pairs of volumes on the lot. Each dwelling has its own outdoor space, which provides the living areas with optimal lighting. Circulatory and green space are used as components to solidify the overall structure of the project, forming a social platform for current and future residents.
