This project is the result of a competition organized by the non-profit organization Emmaus. The project is situated in Mechelen as part of the new General Hospital’s master plan for the area Roosendaelveld. It encompasses the new construction of a daycare center for 42 children – expandable to 112. The entire site is developed as a harmonious landscape park in order to achieve a valuable reorganization. In both form and material use, the daycare center presents itself as a cabin in the woods in the park of Roosendaelveld. Thanks to the fact that the building is only one story tall, it dissolves into the landscape. The building is inviting and has a child-friendly atmosphere. By folding out the fifth façade – the roof – over the rationally constructed layout, the volume attains a playful character. A green roof and solar panels are planned for parts of the roof.
